The People’s Show
The People’s Show event will take place during our annual Village Festival in Melbourne in The Edinburgh Gardens (3rd -6th November 2011).
The People’s Show will be created by audience and artists during the Village Festival In Edinburgh Gardens and presented on Sunday afternoon.
It will work like this: An area of the Village will be dedicated to the construction of the set; this can be anything from 2 kingdoms to a desert setting (whatever the theme is).
The building will be done by festival patrons, with assistance from our artists…People can spend five minutes there, or the full five days of the event if they wish. The rest of the festival carries on around them.
While set and props are getting made in one area of the festival, musicians will work with audience participants to create the show’s score in music making workshops. Meanwhile costumes are created by festival patrons and costume designers in a costume making studio.
Every year there will be another theme and a guiding storyline for the show. Four directors will work with participants (festival audience, Village performers, Village crew) to devise one scene each. All these 4 scenes will be played out as one show with a beginning and an end.
The play will take over the entire festival site and serve as the culminating celebration.
