TRANSYLVANIAN GYPSY KINGS
TGK play the latest horas from Bucharest, traditional boys dances where they
slap themselves, and hit pop songs from non-stop Romanian bars. Their style is
very sexy, with lots of black leather and macho jewellery from downtown Cluj Napoca/
Kolozsvar (capital of Transylvania).
Nicu (vocals, keys) and Lucian (violin) have taught members of the Australian lady
group Vardos in their regular trips to Eastern Europe to study folk and Roma
(gypsy) music. Kiko (electric bass) is from Slovenian background,
whose family escaped persecution.
TGK were playing at Junction Arts Festival Launceston Tasmania 2011
and also at Falls Festival Lorne Victoria in da Village 2008 where they released
first album “Cu Drag” (with Love).
