Welcome to The Village
The Village is a cross between a festival, a fairground and a fete, a genuinely cutting edge arts event, featuring the latest work emerging from the new wave, alongside quality vernacular community presentations and framed in a highly accessible environment.
Physically The Village takes the form of a series of highly decorated temporary theatre spaces and facades: tents, inflatables, buses, caravans, shipping containers and fenced open spaces. The largest venue seats around 150, the smallest no more than a handful. The look is handmade, human scaled, colourful and low tech. A typical Village is between three and five days long, the weekday afternoons and early evenings are family friendly, but late at night you may see something to make your hair stand on end.
The Village is an act of optimism in a cynical world. Our intention is to have artists and community members leave The Village with a strong sense of the essential goodness of people. We also strongly believe in the community building power of people seeing their own stories reflected back to them in the art that they see.
