Welcome to Village By The Lake!
The Village Festival, Australia’s travelling arts festival is on its nomadic journey and for the first time it will make a charming and enchanting appearance as Village By The Lake on Saturday November 11th at Benalla Festival 2017.
From 2.30pm-9.30pm at Lake Benalla Foreshore, Fawkner Drive, we welcome through the impressive gateway to The Village world: a wildly inventive and creative festival for everyone and anyone. Village By The Lake appears to the onlooker as a series of highly decorated tents and caravans but it is so much more! Within these façades lives music, theatre, dance, film, circus, installations, storytelling, live art, food and culture.
Travelling with us to Benalla is The World Kitchen, The Village Festival’s coveted performative food stage that allows peckish observer to transform into satiated participant. Joining The World Kitchen is Monster Chef, Roo Stew Aunty Desiree, community cook off and local chef Rustik Paul. You’re cordially invited to share our food and our stories.
On the Main Music Stage let us serenade your ears with some flamenco dance and music from Encuentro Flamenco, gypsy music from Vardos, musical performance from FCJ high school band, acoustic guitar from Michaela Alexander, Ben Stolz bring his band Broken River and finally Ella Hooper, Benalla’s most famous export, singer songwriter from the 90’s mega hit band Killing Heidi makes a headline marvel on The Village’s Main Music Stage.
The Workshop tent will be hosting dog costume making in lieu of the upcoming Famous Village Dog Show running at 4pm that day, as well as a Craft workshop for littlies and a hands on Duck sculpture.
The Red Cross opshop will be running all day and don’t miss our 10 min disco parties in the Silver Caravan. Village Favourite Gherkin Khan and Tina puppet show will make an appearance. All day roving from Lola the dancing bear and Cardboard arcade games. Workshops and games will be run by Freeza in the Moonhouse.
Finally don’t miss out on our most spectacular art installation yet, The Fireworks! Enjoy our show of burning sculptures and a live music soundtrack by David Thrussell and Benalla youngsters as fireworks take to the sky from Benalla Lake from 9pm.
