In 2016, we are embracing “Entry by Donation”. This allows The Village Festival to be accessible to everyone and allows festival-goers to contribute to the festival according to their means, rather than set an arbitrary amount.
It’s a bit of an experiment, but The Village is all about alternative ways of doing things!
How much should I give?
Last year we asked $10 per adult and $5 per child for up to 6 hours of entertainment.
If everyone coming to the festival donates this amount, the festival will cover its costs and will be able to pay more than 100 artists involved in the festival a modest sum. Contribute $30 or more online before 28 October and get a free drink at the bar.
However, it doesn’t contribute to The Village Festival, which is a charity organisation that puts on this event and other community festivals around Australia.
Another way to look at it is compare what would you pay for something similar elsewhere. Each individual show/experience at The Village would typically charge $15 per person, and you could reasonably expect to get five to six of these in your Village visit. Once you’re inside the festival gates, everything is free: music, theatre, experiences, installation art. You just need to pay for food and drink, plus we ask a charity donation to play the games in Carnivale.
Or another way to look at it is what you can afford. We suggest that each individual coming through the gate gives 0.05% of their annual income. If you earn $50 000 a year, that is $25. If you are on the average artist earnings of $10 000 a year, chuck in a fiver. If you’re Rupert Murdoch, well…well you probably won’t be at The Village Festival. Test yours.
What does my money go to?
The Village Festival is run as a profit-share with all the artists involved in the program. We guarantee them $50 for each session they are a part of. This barely rates above bugger-all, so if you would like to financially support the artists and performers that you see in The Village Festival, please donate in excess of $10 as you arrive.
In 2016, all of the entry donations that we receive through the box office will go directly to support the artists.
The other costs of putting on the event are funded through the support of our partners, as well as food and drink sales. If you would like to support The Village Festival organisation that puts on these events, please:

* make a donation to the Dumb Stunts for Cash campaign
* buy some drinks at the bar and get your meals and snacks within The Village
* make a donation at the box office
* transfer your home loan to Bank Australia
* support our supporters
