The Village Festival's project OUR VILLAGE is traveling to The Winton Wetlands on Nov the 21-25th .“Our Village” is a collaborative project concerned with questions surrounding human impact and optimistic perspectives of regeneration in the current climate crisis. Participants will collaboratively build a fantastical village out of cardboard as part of their designs they will plant seeds and seedlings. Eventually these seedlings will grow and the garden will take over the disintegrating village. The project is targeted at children and adults, who will participate as collaborators and art makers. It’s about creating awareness of sustainability and the importance of nature and gardens. Artists will be Eliza Jane Gilchrist, Tim Sneddon, Louise Costa-Pelle, Suzanne Kalk and Stuart Vaskess. Thanks to Winton Wetland for letting us build this artwork in your amazing park.

I recently met Abdi and he is one of the most inspiring and positive people I have ever met. Abdi fled his home country Somalia at 15 he survived war but lost his family eventually Abdi found refuge in Australia, finished school and gained two degrees including one as a youth psychologist, built a family here and written about his life in his books: Shining: The Story of a Lucky Man and Yes I can -a book for children. Abdi also became a youth worker, was acknowledged with the 2007 Victorian Refugee Recognition Award and was featured in the SBS second series of Go Back to Where You Came From.![]()
Despite what he has gone through, Abdi is a most inspiring man, who is constantly thankful for his life and what he has. Everything he has endured and achieved is testament to his quiet strength and courage, his resilience and most of all, his warm-hearted, shining and enduring optimism.![]()
This is an amazing and rare (free)opportunity for young people to learn about story telling, emceeing, public speaking and spend an afternoon in the presence of Abdi Aden. You will by no doubt get inspired by Abdi!![]()
