The Village is a festival. The Village is one huge event split into many related parts. The Village is piece of technology for making art. The Village is a way of creating temporary community. The Village is a system of ethics. The Village is an antidote to consumption.
The Village is an artist run organisation that creates and runs a variety of festivals and events. At the heart of what we do is the desire to bring audiences and artists together in ways that excite both. Physically it takes the form of up to a dozen handmade venues nestled together in a park. The venues range from tents that seat 150, to tiny spaces for 1 + 1 experiences. We host shows, bands, films and art shows. We also host installations, roving work, live art, participatory projects and genreless “things.”
We are famous for creating situations where the audience performs for each other – The Famous Village Dog Show, The Falls Fiesta and So You Think You Can Interpretive Dance fall into this category. We are:
Low Tech
Low emissions
Accessible
Hand Made
We eat together
We dance
The Village has it’s own stand alone events – North Fitzroy’s Edinburgh Gardens and the Winter Festival in Castlemaine. We have our regular partnerships – The Falls Music And Art Festival in Lorne (VIC), Marion Bay (TAS) and Byron Bay (NSW) . We also undertake bespoke commissions – Canberra Centenary, Big West, Halls Gap, Art Is… Horsham.
Contact us to talk about us creating an event for you. We can do the whole shebang, or something more tailored. We are based in Victoria, but operate Australia-wide and potentially beyond.
